Title

In the thirteen years that Jugal has spent as a spatial thinker and social observer, he has harvested a gamut of rich experiences from several parts of the globe.

He holds a postgraduate degree in Urban Design from Columbia University, New York.

Relentlessly restless in his pursuit of architectural and design best practices, Jugal subsequently worked with Miami architecture firm Oppenheim Architecture + Design to design a large future development as part of Plan Abu Dhabi 2030.

Jugal has helmed JMA Mumbai since 2012, where he has conceptualized and executed several projects in the country. His acute focus on high-end assignments has created a trusted client base, ranging from developers to high net-worth families in Mumbai, North India, and Goa.

A majority of JMA Mumbai projects are based outside the city, making constant travel a prerequisite for Jugal. India’s diversity is palpable on the road. And it’s not only about new cultures. Client sensibilities, modus operandi, physical site conditions, local laws, each new aspect is a spark – stimuli for a new design language every time Jugal picks up the pencil.

His socially conscious design philosophy is evident in his penchant for upcycling shipping containers. This cost-effective, low-environmental impact use of existing cargo boxes to build schools and nursing rooms in neglected parts of India bears testimony to his foresight.

Practice

JUGAL MISTRI ARCHITECTURE straddles distinct cultural and economic polarities. Because a sound architectural solution sees no distinction between the two.

At JMA, our architectural journey settles for nothing short of the pinnacle of both, immaculate form and function. Each project is an expression of our vision whilst co-partnering our clients’ needs. And we want nothing to speak more about us than our body of work. We exist to simply design and deliver architecture with a scalable impact. That’s why; our priorities take a pragmatic approach to serve the interest of our clients with thought-provoking proposals that are at once bold and meaningful.

We focussed our nascent years on our duality; designing top-end luxury homes at one end and providing sanitation for rural communities at the other. We’ve upcycled shipping containers by employing cutting-edge design and contextual thinking. Our work has had us travel to the deepest rural towns in India with our ideas and designs that aim to transform future India. We believe critical thinking can create design typologies that, in turn, can create profitable architectural interventions within the city and the rest of the country.

Scale

What interests us is the next big thing - The unchartered neglected territories of India that are either soaked in poverty or lack effective innovation.
